In their own words, Australian duo Ginger and the Ghost create music that combines light with darkness, that transforms the ethereal of the imagination into the physical longings of song. While that might sound a bit esoteric, I challenge you to listen to their newest single "The Mark of Hearts" and not find yourself agreeing with this assessment, at least on some level (depending on how open your mind is). Booming drums and tight guitar chords pull at your heart strings, stirring emotions on a spiritual level, while soaring vocals take flight, circling around and around and building until they suddenly plummet back down to join the rest of the song, like Icarus reaching oh so close to the sun. When the song really gets going - when the drums are pounding, the chords are frantic and the vocals are chilling - I imagine it as the perfect backdrop to a dream bordering on nightmare, until the first rays of morning come and pull you back and you realize there was never anything to fear at all. Take a listen below and make sure to follow this band - they're going to be dropping gems for a long, long time.
