The uniqueness found in the workings of Young Wonder has slid into the remix world with their rendition of Gavin James’ “The Book Of Love”, a more mellowed showing of the Cork duo’s ability to rework a soft-touched acoustic piece. It’s a sonic pick-me-up from the somberness of the original, brisking up its pace and upping the vocal pitches while, in the first half of the song, deviating little from its primary path. The latter sections are where the real mastery comes in, as the brass-driven synths which gradually develop behind James’ voice are whisked in with reverbed vocal hints to add a satisfyingly electronic feel. Side by side with the original, the track at hand isn’t all so different, but by spending time basking in the nuances found within and giving it time to get going, its obvious that there’s something serious to adhere to as the track moves along. We have Young Wonder to thank for that.
