Frank Ocean's "Thinkin Bout You" has, since its release, become one of the more iconic R&B songs of the last two years. The lyrics are simple in their delivery, but when strung together in ways that only Frank manages, they're turned into musical poetry of the first order. The success of the song has inspired a whole host of covers and remixes since it first hit the airwaves, but this one by The Night VI is probably the most unique in that it doesn't really try to add anything extraordinary to the original composition. There's a certain genius to that, too; for when an original is as good as this one, sometimes the only thing that's really necessary is to remove all the clutter, strip down the sound, and let the lyrics breathe a bit. That's not to say that the original was too much (the original was great), it's just that this one pays homage to what Frank Ocean did in the most tasteful way possible, and at some points may just even top it. Sacrilege? Maybe. I stand by it, either way. The more solemn tone in this version lends itself nicely to the gravity in Franks's words, and if you never really connected with the original, then this just may be the version for you to re-experience the modern classic in a new light.
