Kieran Hebden aka Four Tet's new album Beautiful Rewind is slated to drop today, but for those of you who follow and love his music he released an album stream last week. There hasn't been much if any fanfare hanging around this album, mostly because Four Tet himself has done basically nothing to generate much buzz, but honestly we love that strategy - let the music speak for itself, and if you have something special, the listeners will come. And come they will. The latest track to drop from the album is "Unicorn", a psychedelic journey filled with some of the most interest takes on how sound can be used to craft a coherent and enjoyable song. Four Tet experiments with mood, with the bleeps and bloops that are so inherent to electronic music but can get so overused and overplayed, if don't improperly. Well, he's made sure to put a new spin on everything to keep it fresh. "Unicorn" is a soothing, mind-bending track. You won't so much find yourself nodding your head to the beat as much as drifting off to a place where you're consciousness is free to roam wherever it likes. It's kind of like if dripping water became self-aware and got lost on an incredible adventure through the fabric of time and space while tripping balls on some of the best hallucinogens around. If you're a fan of this type of music, please give it a go.
