Two of hip-hop's most exciting icons, Flying Lotus and Kendrick Lamar, have come together on "Never Catch Me", the second single from the former's upcoming album, You're Dead!—and it's a track you're absolutely going to want to tune into. With its bouncy, jazz-infused rhythms, and its erratic, upbeat drums, you can start to see the direction You're Dead! is moving. "Never Catch Me" has a beat that dips in and out of various tempos and maniacally arranged piano compositions throughout—bridging the breaks with muted guitars and harsh hi-hats—and though it's a difficult one for any emcee to work over, Kendrick's pitched and chopped vocals fit in extremely well. In terms of content, too, we see something that Kendrick is familiar with: a type of lyrical flexing allowing us to hear just how much ahead of the game he is, and, yet again, he's able to back the talk up.
