Tropical house has been enjoying an ever-increasing fan base these days, and the relaxed take on this ubiquitous genre has formed what looks to be the fledgling elements of a new music sub-category. With this new popularity, new names have sprung up left and right, and the community's sound as a whole, though new, has already started to evolve a bit. That being said, there are still some artists out there who have been doing their own thing for a couple years now, and their sound is looking more and more like it's going to eventually intersect with what tropical house is bringing to the table. Figgy is one of those artists, and although his earlier work takes a much colder approach, his latest track, "Do It Like Us", feels like it's being played a lot closer to the equator, as the sound is as bright as it is melodic. It's very possible that this is what a lot of the tropical house might sound like in about a year or two after it goes through a couple sonic wash cycles and acquires some subtlety; however, instead of having to wait that long, Figgy made it available for your listening pleasure right now. Take a listen and pay attention to how he mixes in some of your more traditional house beats with synth chords that are much brighter than normal, and then tops it all off with wide-sweeping textures that makes "Do It Like Us" feel especially aquatic. It's a great direction for him, and one that will be keeping him ahead of the tropical pack for the foreseeable future.
