Figaro

Countryside

Figaro just released a new full-length album, and it's packed with great tracks. Normally, with albums like these, there's one or two good songs that will really grab your attention, and the rest of the tracks remain a little harder to fall in love with. That's not the case with Figaro, though, because they've gone and compiled a project that is much deeper than your average indie album. For Copake, they've really embraced a stripped-down approach to recording and the production work, but the way they layer together the guitars and background vocals makes the music sound a lot more full and polished than initial impressions would lead you to believe. While the album does a great job of keeping a strong sense of identity and continuity, each track has its own unique quirks and character, and you find yourself enjoying each for entirely different reasons. At some points, the music is borderline folk, and at other times (like on "Moving Slowly"), Figaro seems to be embracing their rock heritage with no small amount of enthusiasm. At nine songs in length, this isn't the biggest album you'll come across, but the quality is top-tier, and we can almost guarantee that this is going to win you over right from the beginning.
