We love when artists are able to tell a story, or better yet, allow the listener to explore a collection of raw emotions through a well-crafted sonic experience. In the case of LA's Fifty Grand, the sorrow sound of her voice gave me the same feeling as if I'd just seen a stranger crying in public. You never really know what to do in situations like those, because, for one, you have no idea why they're upset, but on the other hand, you want to know because you feel a sense of sympathy towards this person you don't know. Fifty Grand is new to us at HD; however, she has been producing and occasionally singing for almost a year now. Each of the four tracks on her Join You (The October Demos) EP was inspired by a heartbreaking tale of losing someone very close to her unexpectedly (as she described in her bio), adding to the stunning and emotional journey she takes us on during songs such as, "Scary All Over". "Scary All Over" immediately caught our attention after first hearing it on Halifax producer/DJ Woadie's latest mix, "lwkymix", which you can stream HERE, and we can't thank him enough for introducing us incidentally to this wonderful new producer/songstress.
