We've always been fans of what Fickle Friends has put out as far as their original material is concerned, but this new remix of their latest single, "P L A Y", is an absolute win. The original track was very much in the band's wheelhouse, and this Foreign Skin remix is very much outside of it, but that's what remixes are for, and the complete departure from the song's original vibe is ultimately a very welcome change of pace. At first, it's a bit hard to sync up with, but give it some time, and find the laid-back beats and low-end vocal modulation is hypnotic and enthralling. Crank this one up if you want impress your friends with a little bit of sonic diversity, and if you have a taste for grungy party music that just so happens to be extremely well-executed. The intro is relatively slow, but the whole track is basically one big build, and by the time it's done, you're bobbing your head in anticipation of the arrival of the next beat section. The last third of the track is a series of builds and cuts that transforms "P L A Y" from a happy-go-lucky indie-pop track, to a laid-back banger that delivers where you want, and on the back of the segment alone, we're thinking Foreign Skin has ensured herself incoming praise and a whole host of new fans. This remix is the start of Fickle Friends' new 'Fickle Fridays' initiative that will see the act release new content every Friday for a month, and with their latest track, "For You" being played as Zane Lowe's next hype on BBC radio last night, there's no better way to kick it off than with this superb remix.
