Feki & Glasshouse — Retrograde (James Blake Cover)

Feki & Glasshouse

Retrograde (James Blake Cover)

It goes without saying that there are artists whose songs are covered frequently, but many don't live up to the talent or artistry of their creator. James Blake is one of those artists who is seemingly unable to be covered largely because of his massive originality and talent, but, even with that hanging over their heads, Feki and Glasshouse, two acts from Brisbane, Australia, have teamed up with one another on a reinvented cut of lead single "Retrograde" from his second LP Overgrown. Gone here are the original artist's looping vocals, and in their place are slinky saxophone riffs and atmospheric electronic production compliments of Feki. Glasshouse's vocal also takes the song to a new place, carrying a more alternative-rock vibe compared to the original R&B. We have here a harder, more brazen take on the song, bringing it new dimension and a wider audience, and fans of Blake will appreciate the effort, while those who enjoy Feki and Glasshouse will be excited at the prospect of the new material and collaboration itself.
