While the majority of songs posted on Hillydilly are probably premeditated and worked on for a decent time span, the story behind "Tunnels" is a bit different. Red Brick Songs, a Toronto-based music publisher, assembled fifteen musicians from all over North America for a three-day recording spree, resulting in a fifteen-track collaboration album. On the last day of the retreat, Erin Fein (Psychic Twin) and Ryne Estwing (ON AN ON) joined forces, with production from Nygel Asselin (Half Moon Run), and the result of their session is the serene affair, "Tunnels". A lone kick sets the track's stage, soon to be followed by a placid soundscape and tranquil vocals from Erin Fein. A subtle bassline sneaks in, and shortly thereafter, Ryne Estwing's emotive croon emerges. Nygel Asselin gradually builds up the instrumental behind it all, adding in synth layers, vocal chops, and electronic nuances as the two singers harmonize effortlessly. The song's vibe is restful, yet sweet, making for an irrefutably captivating effort altogether. Although this is the only material we've heard from the Red Brick Songs sessions, the amount of talent they assembled leads us to believe that we'll be hearing more exceptional material on their upcoming release, The Red Album. For now, though, enjoy what tranquil effort the three aforementioned individuals have managed to make.
