This one is tough to pigeonhole. “Talk About It” opens up like any old hip-hop song would, with a couple of interwoven beats and series of low-octave blips, heralding what would usually be a moderately angry, gravely-voiced, man as he starts to rap about getting paper, and “The Game.” That all goes out the window though when Erik opens his mouth. All of a sudden, the track does a 180 turn away from run-of-the-mill, and rushes headlong into that beautiful no-man’s between rap and indie electronic in the same way Sam Smith was able to do with his hit single “Nirvana.” Long, drawn out, distorted guitar chords bridge the gap between bass hits, and Erik Hassles voice acts as the perfect melody, pulling everything together in epic fashion.
