Dust ft. Mree & Topaz Jones

This is the kind of well-thought-out music that makes you wonder why people even bother with the other stuff. "Dust" is the very first release from the mysterious producer/songwriter, Episode, and it features the very impressive voices of both Mree, and Topaz Jones. The track cycles back and forth between some sort of lounge-jazz-inspired indie-pop, and a homage to the hip-hop of yesterday. It's a glorious combination, and throughout the whole affair, Episode makes great use of orchestral strings so that you're left with a sense that this track is so much more than just your average indie release. The vocals sound hollow and expansive in some places, but they're quickly juxtaposed by the rapping, and you're brought back down to earth with gritty lyrics and muted basslines. The whole listening experience makes it seem like you're listening to two different songs duking it out for supremacy, but just when you think the transition between styles is putting too much strain on the overall composition, Episode pulls everything together into one beautifully mastered piece of audio. This track is a success from start to finish, and the amount of finesse that was packed into these three minutes and thirty-six seconds is simply jaw-dropping.
