Cheap (prod. by Rex Kudo & Charlie Handsome)

Planet has been a long time coming for EMI, one of the most startlingly consistent, criminally underrated artists from Seattle, the Pacific Northwest, and music in general. For over a year now, she's been putting out solid bass-pop works chronicling her hustle and interactions with others, and, now, she's finally packaged everything into one coherent (and amazing) whole, Planet, her debut LP. The material on Planet isn't unlike that of earlier works she's put out, but, again, that's no surprise, as consistency has been her calling card since she first began. This project is one that features all the same producers she's worked with before (we are not mad about that), and it's still got that glowing nighttime vibe we've come to love her for. The cohesiveness from track to track is unmatched, and it ensures a play through from beginning to end. Overall, EMI doesn't take too many new chances here, but we're not faulting her for that, because the world's been sleeping and needs to be aware of her original sound. It's in full force here, for sure, and we can only hope the rest of the music community gets on board and appreciates the sound as much as we have since it first began. [via Complex]
