We're still trying to figure out Elderbrook, and with each new song he releases, we learn a little bit more about his sound. The first offering that we ever heard from him, "Going," meshed acoustic sounds and electronic production, but this song was unfortunately taken down. "Rewinding" was released around the same time, and it presented a mellower electronic feel to his sound, but his remix of Amber Run's "I Found" introduced a new deep house vibe that caught us a bit off guard. As you can see, we're a bit perplexed by Elderbrook and his jack-of-all-trades appearance, but with his new single, "Could", he further explicates his distinct, yet diverse electronic style that we're growing to adore. Alex Kotz (Elderbrook) takes a pretty minimalistic approach to this one, and this is demonstrated in his sparse use of percussion and synths. Each of the instruments that he does choose to include echo to some extent, and Kotz's gentle vocals guide the piece brilliantly. The track's calm, consistent house beat contributes a fresh, slightly upbeat vibe, but the overall tranquil sound emitted from the work is something that we're absolutely digging. We find that many of the best artists tend to do more with less, and while that certainly isn't an easy task to execute, Elderbrook does a remarkably good job of doing it in "Could". He has an upcoming EP, Simmer Down, being released through one of our favorite record labels, Black Butter Records, too, so be sure to keep an ear out for that in the near future.
