What Boston's Durkin has been doing release after single release on Soundcloud is highly attractive, to me at least and perhaps to the thousands who have hit play over the months at most. In all reality, I need more. From his very creative and successful rework of an acclaimed A$AP Rocky tune ("Get Lit") relinquished just 10 months ago, it seemed only sensical for Durkin to delve into a niche of his own that he would apparently develop until an ultimate form conspired - his most recent sno.biz EP seems to be just that. The special category of future bass music that now immediately mirrors the producer/dj's name is his self-made "dreamclub": combinations of modified vocal samples that have ranged from Goldie to Bone Thugs to aforementioned contemporary rappers, cosmic effects, encompassing synthesizer and your not-so-average drums. Title-track "sno.biz" opens with a airy, progressing synth line only to be joined with a space-pointing sample of some sort, a simple but effective 808 pattern, and new chords of synth. The following "br.un.ch", where Durkin is at his best, begins with a slew of cosmic bleeps and bloops - establishing further the dreamclub nature of the release - with deeper kicks and rolls of titular congas, the type possibly associated with the maximal style of say, Rustie. "wh.ee.ly" is engulfed by synth stabs, and the rhythm of the track is backed by unnamed vocal chops that are as frequent as the stabs. sno.biz concludes with the most dreamy of the 4 tracks. Intersteller bleeps instill a sense that you are now deep instead of at the edge of space. After a big drum roll (that Rustie type again), rhythm is created with thick bass hits, a constant patter of hats and a high line of synth.
