J. Cole just launched his own record label through Interscope Records, and to commemorate the event, he's released this official Dreamville mixtape, complete with both the freshmen class of Dreamville artists, and others including: KQuick, Bas, Omen, and even J. Cole himself on a couple tracks. The mixtape spans twelve tracks, and it's got a little bit of everything (including a version of J.Cole's earlier hit, "Crooked Smile"), ensuring depth within the song lineup. The project as a whole does a good job keeping a strong artistic identity throughout, but there are definitely a few standout tracks that separate themselves from the group and are worth a listen even if you aren't up for enjoying Revenge of the Dreamers all the way through. "Lit" ft. J.Cole and KQuick is every inch a solid hip-hop number, but there are definitely some experimental electronic undertones at work here, and the hook is R&B at its finest. Likewise, the mixtape's namesake, "Revenge of the Dreamers," as well as "May The Better Man Win" should also be on your priority listen list, as they both do a great job mixing the laid-back pacing that made J.Cole so popular, while still incorporating a lot of other sounds that give this mixtape an energy that will pull you in and keep you there for the whole ride.
