Rather than submitting to the typical practice of signing a record deal and creating catchy club hits, Chance The Rapper has decided to veer quite far from the typical rap career path. He, Donnie Trumpet, Nate Fox, and Peter Cottontale comprise the four-piece band, The Social Experiment, and they've decided to independently release one of the most highly anticipated albums of the year entirely for free. In doing so, they've blatantly outmaneuvered the direction that the music industry is currently going in, and they've dropped off several nice tunes in the process of doing just that. We're enjoying a bunch of tracks from the body of work, but, specifically, we're taking an immediate liking to "Sunday Candy", a feel-good, sunshiny jam, and "Wanna Be Cool", a peppy, upbeat track that features vocal touches from Jeremih and verses from Big Sean and Kyle. The entire album credits an unusually high number of artists for both features and production, and we're getting the feeling that Chance wants to place emphasis on crediting all the people behind the music, not just the vocalists that there are. Surf is certainly a huge temperature taken with regard to the current climate of music and what classifies as "genre-breaking", and, most importantly, it's packed with quality songs.
