A couple months ago, a promising single surfaced from the upcoming Aussie duo, De̊ǰa, who has been gaining hype ever since the exciting release of their debut electro-pop EP, Make Light. We were stunned by the uniqueness of their latest release, "Heavy Water" (which acted as the lead single for their upcoming EP, Infinite Ecstatic), and when we hear an offering as distinct as this one, we often wonder where there sound will progress. Today they've settled our curiosity with their new single, "Heart", adding another abstract song to De̊ǰa's unpredictable but completely enthralling artistic repertoire. A haunting array of deep bass and scattering vocal bits sets "Heart's" stage, and a spine-chilling electronic call lingers in the background, but the song's elements slowly begin to morph in shape and velocity, sporadically diving in and out of focus. Suddenly, a foreshadowing wave of crisp percussion rolls through, only to be swiftly stripped away, leaving the listener with an anticipatory segment. Then, De̊ǰa brings the percussion back alongside a fresh set of synths in the upbeat chorus, giving the song a somewhat paradoxical feel by juxtaposing dark bass and bright synths. The work's unorthodox structure and shadowy vibe sets it apart from the mass of modern electro-pop, so be sure to take the time necessary to get familiar with the work, as De̊ǰa's upcoming EP, Infinite Ecstatic, comes out sometime in July. If you're fortunate enough to live in Australia, too, you might be able to catch the group live at a Crooked Colours or Movement gig later this summer, so act accordingly.
