Have you ever listened to a song that brought a smile instantly to your face? For us, it was that very physiological response we experienced when we first played “Nothing At All”, the debut single from 25 year-old Oakland native, Jackson Phillips (Day Wave). Following in the succession of recent, great beach-pop acts like Shivery Shakes and Ladada, the surf-rock guitar riffs, sun-kissed synth arrangements, and lo-fi vocals of Day Wave give the whole track a playfully sunny demeanour that acts as an instant mood enhancer. As we head into the cold embrace of winter here in the Northern Hemisphere, this track has us all pining for the days of sunny road trips along the coast with the salt-laced air caressing our tanned skin. And for those of you in the Southern Hemisphere, well, you now have your summer soundtrack figured out. This track "Nothing At All" is the first to come from Day Wave's debut EP, which is set for release early next year.
