There's just something about the incredibly open genuineness of every lyric, guitar riff, drum pattern, and synth melody in Day Wave's music that makes us connect with it on such an elevated level. When we listen to his tunes, we feel like we're getting the chance to directly hear his troubled emotions and insecurities, both of which give us a sense of relatable comfort. Day Wave's debut EP, Headcase, highlights the struggles of finding one's purpose in life and of getting comfortable in one's own skin, all while transitioning into true adulthood. Throughout the work, he grapples with a mental back-and-forth between melancholy (as heard when he questions, "What am I good for, nothing at all") and optimism (as heard when he assures himself, "It just takes time, we'll be alright"). Also, the fact that his music is lo-fi indie-rock suggests that he wants to hang onto youthful ideas, regardless of the world pressuring him to grow up. This EP, which surely will go down as one of the year's best, includes all four of Day Wave's previously released tracks alongside a fantastic new one in the form of the title track. It's currently available for pre-order on iTunes, and it will be officially released on July 17.
