Day Wave has been a reliable source of hazy, guitar-layered indie pop for years, and "Before We Knew" is another strong entry. The reverb-soaked production is lush without being muddy, and the hook arrives with that bittersweet clarity that Jackson Phillips does better than almost anyone. It's nostalgic without being precious about it.
