Some songs make you pause for a minute and leave you hanging on every word. "Breathe", the heartbreaking first listen from new London duo Dahlia, is one of such work, and, although it sounds light and beautiful overall, it quickly zeros in on a painful human emotion as well. It's not quite unrequited love, but one that doesn't line up all the way, or, at least, in the way one would hope. Luke Hester, the production half of the duo, creates a minimal but effective instrumental on the track that frames and builds with vocalist Lucy Hill's voice, and, together, they are able to engender a downtempo and highly impactful listen that has plenty of lyrical significance to spare.
