There are a few signs that indicate early on when a group is probably going to be big. First, they've attained at least six-digit figures in SoundCloud plays on an initial release (a feat Crooked Colours achieved with their second offering, "Come Down"); second, they've received extensive remixing from upcoming producers (which has also happened); and third, and possibly most importantly, they've dedicated themselves to releasing music with quality as the priority, not quantity. After hearing their third release, "In Your Bones", we can confidently check that one off the list, too, and as we can see, the group of Aussies has an abundance of potential, so there's no better time to become a part of their incipient fan base than right now. "In Your Bones" deviates completely from much of what we hear on a regular basis, and this fact alone is what makes the track as captivating as it is. Whatever instrument generates the percussion (it sounds sort of like a tweaked bongo), we can't get enough of it, and its inclusion undoubtedly sparks a fresh, new sound in the effort. The synths are powerful, the electronic elements are refreshing, and vocalist Phil Slabber coasts atop it all with absolute swagger, conveying sensuality at its best. So, while we're not sure when more material from Crooked Colours is coming, for now, we can cross our fingers, hope to hear more soon, and listen to "In Your Bones" in the meantime.
