Perth band Crooked Colours has been on our radar ever since we first heard the twisted synth-pop of their debut single, "Come Down". The months that followed saw the unveiling of their first EP which featured the strangely sensual title track "In Your Bones", and now, the trio has decided to keep the momentum going as they drop a brand-new single from their upcoming sophomore release. The aforementioned EP was imbued with a refreshingly original sound that set them apart from the multitude of other electronic-pop outfits circulating the genre of late. The tricked-out samples and percussion elements employed were playful, and yet had a darkness that lurked just below the surface. It seems that the floodgates have opened now, though, as their latest single, "Capricious", is not just dark—it's downright nefarious. The opening bars set the tone immediately with deep, throbbing bass and stabbing synths that only surge as the track continues, and even Phil Slabber's vocals have a slightly sinister accent as he delivers what on the surface sounds like great advice to a flame who has paired with an unlikely suitor. "Capricious" indicates a bold direction for the band, no question, and we're excited to see what else the three have to share on their sophomore EP later this year.
