Every once in a while, a fully formed band will appear on the internet seemingly out of nowhere with no context or backstory and present an exceptional new sound. Creatures at Play, a duo, is the latest group doing this, and their Time Wasted Nominated EP samples an amalgamation of genres that lays out this claim. First and foremost, the music is progressive, and it has moments of folk, alternative-rock, R&B, and jazz. The structures for songs they use are playfully contorted, too, and they shift brilliantly on a dime to open up into unexplored territory. From this, little moments of beauty are created, and it creates a memorable listening experience for the project as a whole.
