An electronic track as intimate as Willow Beats' remix of "Surge" is a rarity these days. The majority of the time, it seems, producers' preferences take them towards extravagant, rather than elegant, sounds. And while there's nothing wrong with that in principle, it does get a bit repetitive after a while. Fortunately for us, Willow Beats avoids the snares of sameness with the Cosmo's Midnight track they reimagine. Rather than add to the uplifting nature of the original, the duo elects to instill an opposite vibe, turning the formerly gleeful sound into a glum, and yet entirely alluring affair. A somber synth aids in the endeavor, caressing the equally bleak vocals they screw to perfection (please, no jokes), and an eventual descent into sonic despondency ensues.
