Cold Clinical Love is an act still very much shrouded in mystery. The only information they have divulged (which we presume is shared with their tongues firmly in cheek), is that they hail from the remote Åland Islands off the coast of Finland. Regardless of nationality, though, band-member history, or any other miscellaneous background information, there is one aspect that transcends this constructed mystique, and that’s just how damn infectious CCL’s sound truly is. We first came across CCL’s unique style last year with the release of “Bob Dylan”. It was an enigmatic confluence of tricked-out percussion and experimental sonic manipulations that was unlike anything we had heard before. After following up with their incredible rework of Kid Kudi’s “Creepers” back in April, however, CCL went quiet. There was no trace of any activity until late last week when they dusted off their (criminally unpopulated) social media platforms and teased us with a banner displaying the words “Bullet Youth”, and finally, we have our hands on the release and our proud to premiere the brand-new single from them. Clocking in at only two and a half minutes, CCL don’t waste any time with their commanding aural assault on the track. The vocals within are confident and purposeful with an irresistible hook, all of which is championed by an emphatically fierce wall of sound. We have previously loved this maximal approach to pop composition with releases from the likes of Lincoln Jesser, and it is executed to absolute perfection on “Bullet Youth”. It is a blistering, no-holds-barred romp—a call out to the world that Cold Clinical Love are deserving of your attention.
