Close Counters just popped up on our radar about a week ago with their stunning rendition of LEWES', "Blood", and now, we're seeing that this Aussie duo is taking their work very seriously. Yes, remixes are impressive (as their aforementioned one certainly is), but we tend not to get too confident in an artist until we've heard a commendable original (unless their forte is, like Kygo's, remixing tracks), and "Fluctuate" is exactly what we needed to confirm our confidence in Close Counters. The song begins with an excess of inchoate electronic material floating amidst some gorgeous female vocals, and each reside on top of a beat sampling Jagwar Ma's "That Loneliness". The song builds enticingly, and after about half of a minute, a blissful wave of deep synths and upbeat percussion wash over the track's base. Close Counters' synth work is absolutely brilliant throughout, and they showcase their production dexterity throughout the entire piece. We see our fair share of acts that make one good song and can't back it up with more (as we made mention of above), but after hearing "Fluctuate", we're confident that Close Counters' meticulous production—along with their irrefutable creativity—will continue to produce more excellent work ahead.
