"In The Night" isn't out to blow you away with some new experimental way to mix sounds together; in fact, it's got a pretty conservative composition. However, don't let that turn you off to what is probably one of the better indie tracks to come out over course of the past couple of months. It's got some subtle pop undertones, but the overwhelming influence here is jazz music. The softly distorted basslines and guitar chords feel like they're the spiritual descendants of those from your favorite Chicago album, but instead of all the different layers thrust front and center, Clare lets everything settle eloquently into the background. What you have left is the perfect chill-out track that is distinctly vintage in tone, but still original enough to make it on regular rotation on your favorite playlist.
