There’s always the potential for a surprising yet seemingly wonderful sound to be found when an a track pulls on the skills of two very different artists. When cohesion is achieved, even two of the most divergent paths find solace in music, and the ambient nature housed in “The Colour Blue” from Ciaran Lavery and Ryan Vail sets the track in a decisively soothing direction that capitalizes on the two's skill. The track utilizes the alternative-folk aesthetic of Lavery's while inserting a number of subtleties from the electronic arsenal of Vail's, and a fresh blend of music has fostered necessarily as a result. The story behind the collaboration between Lavery and Vail caught our attention, too, as the pair met and planned to work on a track or two together after speaking a few times online. Interestingly, it appears that they’ve hit it off to the point of recording a full EP, and the coastal surroundings of the forthcoming work,Sea Legs, are the inspiration of the ambient and oceanic nature of their tracks. With the quality that we see here in “The Colour Blue,” we’ve nothing to expect but a grand release from the two, so we'll be looking forward to all they have to share.
