No stranger to spacey, late-night-accommodating soundscapes is Chrome Sparks, the Brooklyn-based producer who's no shortage of expansive electronic atmospheres at his disposal. We've seen plenty of his synth-soaked efforts before, so it comes as no surprise that his latest, "Losing U", is another in the mold, but we'd be remiss to say that it's unimpressive because of that. In all honesty, "Losing U" represents one of the grandest sounds yet from Jeremy Malvin, and, though we can chalk that up to a few things, it's his intelligently spaced samples of The Temptations' "I'm Losing You" and generous use of reverb that most obviously put the effort over the edge of average, and into the realm of awe-inspiring. Malvin's made a habit of doing this—expressing some fantastic, seriously inexpressible sound with seeming effortlessness—and it's growing his legend with every successive release. "Losing U" is being released as a free download (yes, pop the champagne), and comes in the wake of a couple of shows Malvin's playing in Australia. You know what to do, therefore, if you're on that part of the globe, but if you're one of the unlucky ones elsewhere, find solace in the lush, large, and truly absorbing sounds that "Losing U" exudes. We surely will be.
