For some Australian producers, escaping comparison to Flume is something that's going to be unavoidable. This may be annoying to those wishing to cast aside their contemporaries in favor of their own sonic lane, but for others who are just getting their start, the comparison is one of flattery, and just might kick their career into motion. It surely doesn't hurt to hear your sound described as "two parts L D R U, one part Flume, with a dash of Willow Beats", either. Regardless of the way we'd like to introduced the Perth-based newcomers, it must be known that on their unruly, earth-shaking debut, "Phase", we find one of the most prolific employments of synths we've heard this year, and we mean that despite the hyperbole. When you immerse yourself in the track, there's no escaping its monstrosity. Don't get it twisted, though, CHIME. doesn't just copy Flume's sound; there's enough unique flair and arrangement changeups embedded that will have you remembering "Phase" as piece of CHIME.'s immaculate work, rather than associating it with anyone else's. As a debut, it's something truly to behold, and is about as big as it gets for a pair of electronic producers starting out, so when we say we expect big things, we're only stating the obvious.
