The story of Charles Bradley and his rise to prominence has been nothing short of remarkable. If you're not familiar with CB's story, hit up this short interview and you will get a good understanding of why you need to be in this guy's corner. It's heart-warming stuff. For a record that is coming out in 2013, Victim Of Love, sounds nothing like the sonic trajectory we currently find ourselves in right now. For that reason alone, this record should be cherished because it's not everyday you hear this kind of passion exuberantly exploding from a human being's voice. One would assume this album would belong in the 70's along with the Temptations, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett..etc, but we don't, we find it smack dab in the era of iPhones and disposable arts. Maybe it was the universe who set out a course for Charles Bradley because due to an overflow of soul in the 60's & 70's why not wait 40 years and give it to the new generation who might desperately need it? Sounds good to me. Victim Of Love was recorded with producer & multi-instrumentalist Thomas Brenneck who was also with Charles on his 2011 debut, No Time For Dreaming. So if you you were into his first album, there is no doubt you are going to love the next step of CB's evolution. Moving on from singing about heartbreak, the "Screaming Eagle of Soul" wonders off into songs about love & passion over throwback psychedelic-soul soundscapes.
