Everything that CATHEDRAL has released thus far has been utterly flawless. For a new act starting out, there's no better way to build your brand than releasing fantastic music in a successive fashion, and, while the San Francisco-based pair's newest single is admittedly not as accessible as their previously released tracks, that's really not saying too much, because we see the effort as a sign that the duo is coming more into their own and branching out from any generic box. With its experimental tinge, "OOO AAA", is far-removed from a cookie-cutter sound, as droning bass, echoing vocal splashes, tension-laced brass synths, and chattering percussion create quite the foreboding atmosphere. And while the production may be something that sounds like it was pulled out of a suspenseful movie scene, it's the duality of Johnny Hwin and Brodie Jenkins' vocals that keeps everything grounded, pulling the mood back and forth like confused, lost-in-thought lovers. "OOO AAA" is taken from the duo's forthcoming self-titled debut EP that will be released on Neon Gold (September 8th), and as far as what to expect from the new body of work, we have no idea, because as "OOO AAA" sonically suggests, it's anyone's guess as to what new directions the two will explore. For that reason, though, we're very much looking forward to it, and you should as well.
