Musical style is undoubtedly one of the most important elements that an artist or group must possesses nowadays, especially since there's such an overabundance of music continuously being released. Cannons, a trio hailing from Los Angeles, brightly radiates a style that sounds like smooth '80s pop done right. And with influences ranging from Depeche Mode to The Beatles, Cannons has successfully constructed their own distinct sound that's leaving us ecstatic to hear more. The first of Cannons' sounds to hit our ears was the mellow electric guitar plucks and strums of "Up All Night", a laid-back, somewhat dreamy track that acts as an exemplary introduction to the band. A slow-paced kick-snare drum kit adds some flow to the piece, while hazy guitar strums echo about the sonic atmosphere. Michelle Joy, the group's female vocalist, shimmers atop the instrumental, and her captivating vocals are harmonized with brilliantly in the chorus. "Neon Light" is the next Cannons effort to make its way through our headphones, and it has fully assured us that this group cannot be ignored. The beat is slightly quicker here, and with multiple layers of chiming synths, guitar strums, electronic melodies, and bass plucks, there's definitely a bit more going on in this one, yet all of the components are cemented together seamlessly. There are plenty of slight nuances constantly occurring, but the group's smooth style is never compromised, and this fact irrefutably displays huge promise for Cannons going forward. All three members of Cannons play roles in the production and instrumentation of their work, so hats off to each of these musical virtuosos, as they've certainly tapped into an exceptional, fresh sound.
