Brooke Fraser — Kings & Queens

Brooke Fraser

Kings & Queens

What we have here is a clashing of two entirely different, yet equally brilliant talents. On one end is Brooke Fraser, an experienced, New-Zealand-born singer, songwriter, and musician. Over the past decade, she's created four full length albums, hit peak chart positions, and racked up millions of listens. On the other end of the spectrum is 18-year-old Mura Masa, a bit of a phenom in the production realm who's been steadily increasing his buzz over the past two years with his original electronic works and remixes. Now, when two artists on different ends of the musical universe collide as we're seeing here, you never know how it's going to turn out, but in this case, it couldn't have worked out any better. In Mura Masa's remix of "Kings & Queens", we see the producer completely reinvent what was originally an uplifting pop effort into an eclectic electronic piece, and it's all over the place in the best way possible. Some deep strings introduce the track, but it doesn't take long for soft keys and fresh percussion make their own way into the mix. Throughout the work, we hear everything from graceful piano keys to floor-shaking bass, and Mura Masa makes sure that Brooke Fraser's vocals are sounding extra crisp over the instrumental groundwork he lays. We're absolutely blown away by the proudcer's ability to fluently incorporate so many different sounds into his remix, and in case you haven't heard the optimistic original yet, be sure to check it out below. Brooke Fraser's upcoming album, Brutal Romantic, is set for release on November 18th in New Zealand, Australia, North America, and Asia, but it's already available for pre-order on iTunes. She's launching the album via Vagrant Records, and if you hope to catch her on her upcoming tour, you can check out the list of dates and cities HERE. Now, check out the original and bold interpretation below.
