Toronto’s Brave Shores has a perfect record with us here at HD, and we’ve been behind them since they sent us their debut single "Never Come Down", asserting that they're at the pinnacle of fresh pop acts out there. Here, our craving for more of their work is finally satisfied, as we’ve Brave Shroes, the self-titled debut EP from the brother-sister duo, to analyze and enjoy. It's everything that we had expected (and more) with its inclusion of hip, upbeat sounds that give off undeniably summer-like vibes in an effort that sits squarely at the intersection of indie-pop and electronic. Brave Shores' first two singles, “Never Come Down”, and later, “Dreaming Underwater”, grabbed our attention and gave us a wholly accurate look into what the quality of the larger compilation would be like. “Never Come Down” burst its way onto the the electro-pop scene at the beginning of the year, too, and has now amassed an impressive 100,000 plays on SoundCloud. “Dreaming Underwater”, meanwhile, complemented the primary release nicely and gave certain depth to the pair’s sonic repertoire with its genre-fusing tones. On top of the aforementioned singles, we've taken a liking to tracks like “World Beneath The Sea” with its slightly lo-fi and unrefined tone that is expressive of the group’s ability to produce tracks that are simply captivating. "More Like You" is a more anecdotal, laid-back addition where sister Stefanie takes point on the vocals and takes us away with her soft touch. The self-titled EP is out now on iTunes via Universal Canada, a formidable and well-deserved accomplishment for Brave Shores who have brought their musical abilities fully to light in their first releases here. We’d recommend nothing less than a full listen to their EP, and rest assured that the entire range of tracks it has to offer will earn multiple spots on your playlists, just as they did in our own.
