Alistair Deverick is a New Zealand-based artist that goes by the moniker "boycrush", and though he released his debut EP a few years ago, it appears that he went back to work on improving his craft after its release, since we've only heard from him sparsely since then. Now, however, to our utmost joy, he's returned to the scene with a brand-new single, "Flirt", and it's the type of funk-filled, synth-laden pop sound that instantly appeals to the ears. With some assistance from Madeira (Kim Pflaum formally of Yumi Zouma), boycrush has masterminded an electronic piece that indeed is upbeat, but also incredibly tasteful as well. The percussive variance and synth manipulation are both outstanding here, and if you're one who tends to get bored with music that is repetitive, then you'll be kept happily occupied with the nuances and idiosyncrasies throughout. Below, you can stream boycrush's newest work, which will appear on his Girls On Top EP to be released May 27. If you dig the track, make sure to take advantage of the free download as well.
