It looks like someone might have to be fired here at hillydilly, since it's bordering on criminal negligence that we haven't posted anything about Los Angeles band Boardwalk yet. Fortunately, with only a week left until the release of their debut album, we're doing everything we can to rectify that mistake and make sure these guys are firmly on your music radar. While crafting a sound that brings the best of the indie-shoegaze genre (think classics like Beach House and Mazzy Star), Boardwalk create a chilled-out aure incorporating low-key guitars and slow-moving rhythms that set the pace for the beautiful voice of Amber Quintero, who casts her vocal spell in conspicuous fashion. "Crying" is the latest single to be released from the project, acting as a low-fi experiment in sound layering, while utilizing vocal melodies to augment the hazy instrumentals to a dreamlike quality. If I were to judge the album based solely on this song, I would say it's a can't miss, and since the legendary label, Stones Throw Records, has given the band its seal of approval, it's a done deal. Take a listen below and ready up for the October 15th release.
