It's tough to come out with a successful second song if the first one was such a huge triumph. Expectations are high, and you don't have the element of surprise on your side anymore. Your newfound fans are expecting you to bring your best, and anything less than that is going to look and sound like a failure when compared to it's beloved predecessor. None of this has seemed to faze Jack Antonoff, though, because his solo project, Bleachers, just put out its second single, and it's a self-assured pop track with even more of that quirky refinement that his first song, "I Wanna Get Better", had coming out of its ears. Right from its onset, the sounds in "Shadow" reinforce the perception that Bleachers is very much a passion project for this already established star. The music itself is pretty perfect in its execution, but none of the individual elements feel too tightly nailed down, and there's a lot of extra weird sound layering that probably wouldn't make into the mix of your average radio candidate. This is a very good thing, and while only time will tell whether Bleachers will truly take off, we're hoping it does, because this is the kind of music that cant get big enough.
