A talent we’ve followed for over six years, Black Milk, has gained quite a reputation in both production and lyrical fields by consistently dropping poignantly powered projects and singles, and “Everybody Was” is an excellent illustration of his polychromatic sonic prowess. The piece is picked from his latest album, If There’s A Hell Below, and it also includes the soul-enriched vocals of Mel, who adds her exuberance to the delightfully simplistic instrumental constructed. Heavy plucks, hard-hitting drums, and saxophone riffs epitomize the beat and clear a pathway for the Detroit native to saunter through memories dear to him and reflect on adolescent times when bleakness was prominent. Black Milk delivers his verses with an urge to address his past, and with Mel beside him providing a nostalgia-heavy refrain, the piece comes together in brilliant fashion. Aside from the previously covered, Bun B-assisted "Gold Piece" and "What It's Worth", "Everyday Was" is our favourite off the album, and if you wish to hear it in full, you can do so over on Bandcamp.
