The hype has been mounting for the past couple of months now for Black Milk's boldly titled new record "Album Of The Year". The album carries the overtone of a confident raw hip-hop that emanates a realness that reaches out through the speakers. Musically this album is intricate with its samples and chord progressions. The drums are a major standout on this album because most of the drums are recorded live off the floor and are more prominent in the mix in most of the tracks. My personal verdict on this album will not have me making this my album of the year unfortunately. I find going through this album that I don't get much of a musical feeling from Black Milk. Don't get me wrong this man is a rapper's rapper but I just don't feel any emotion from his music. I will probably catch some flack for saying this, as there is no doubt people are going to love this album. There are obviously some bangers on the album. Black & Brown with Danny Brown has an absolutely killer beat with Black Milk tearing up his verse. Deadly Medley is also a easy standout on the album that features the fellow god-like emcees Elzhi and Royce Da 5'9. My other favorites were Welcome (gotta go) and Closed Chapter.
