Black Honey is an enigma. With no information revealed about the band, and "Sleep Forever" being their very first release, absolutely anything could happen with this group. That being said, the fact that they've put together such a unique, remarkable sound with just one song is really astounding, and they've undoubtedly caught our attention here at Hillydilly. Sweeping strings, a lonesome electric guitar, and sparse percussion are the first sounds that we hear from Black Honey, but the lead female songstress quickly makes her presence known with her style-filled, sophisticated vocals. Her soulful call is absolutely captivating, and the mellow instrumental allows her to shine brilliantly. After the first chorus comes to close, the song starts to pick up as the drum kit expands and the vocals strengthen, and although the piece maintains a fairly consistent structure throughout, a myriad of nuances break the song down into a bit of a structureless body near the conclusion. It's a bit of a fitting conclusion to the track, representing the little we know of the people behind it, but with all four minutes of musical ingenuity preceding it, we're already eager to receive more material from the group.
