Within the endless current of new music, it’s difficult for anyone to keep up with all that’s coming out. To combat this ongoing influx of sound, we publish our “Best New Artists of the Month” articles in the hopes that you never miss out on the outstanding new artists emerging in recent times. Leon Bridges [track id="00948281" artist="Leon Bridges" title="Coming Home"][track id="00948282" artist="Leon Bridges" title="Better Man"] It feels funny calling Leon Bridges one of the best new artists, because his sound is about as vintage as it gets. We hear plenty of attempts to recreate sounds of the past—many of which are subpar, unfortunately—but Leon not only generates totally authentic-sounding material, but has also gotten some serious attention for it already. It’s only been about three weeks since he released his two debut songs, “Coming Home” and “Better Man”, but he’s already netted over 200,000 plays on SoundCloud for them each. If he continues to release tracks as stylish as them, too, Leon won’t only be making a huge name for himself, but he could spark an entire revival of the gospel-soul genre itself. - written by Cole Ryan BØRNS [track id="00948149" artist="BØRNS" title="10,000 Emerald Pools"] The internet has really eaten away at the traditional A&R process, but there's still plenty of room for talent scouts at the major record labels to get it right. Case in point is the brand-new LA-based and Michigan-rooted artist, BØRNS. The guy has come out of nowhere, but it's apparent that there has been a lot going on behind the scenes for a while now, because his first official release, "10,000 Emerald Pools", is a total juggernaut of a track with a sound all his own. BØRNS may just be getting off the ground in a macroscopic sense, but he's far from just a flash in the pan. Definitely be on the lookout for more from the artist, and if you're a fan of good indie-pop, know that he's your next favorite name in music. - written by Chris Danks CHLØË BLACK [track id="00948292" artist="CHLØË BLACK" title="27 Club"] What do we say about someone like this? There are new artists every day that come out with great work on their first shot, but CHLØË BLACK's debut, "27 Club", is in a league of its own. The song sounds like a mix of something from X Ambassadors, Lana Del Rey, and pretty much whatever it is that you happen to be into at the moment, and it sounds spectacular. The song is good enough to pull fans from pretty much any genre, and the sheer power with which the woman behind it wields is uncanny and fascinatingly so. It's often a risk to try and forecast the career of an artist based simply on one song, but after hearing this single, we pretty much had no choice. CHLØË BLACK is here to stay, and her music is going to continue to build steam in the coming months as people start to realize what a talent she is. - written by Chris Danks Brave Shores [track id="00947691" artist="Brave Shores" title="Never Come Down"][track id="00948376" artist="Brave Shores" title="More Like You"] Two or three years ago, it seemed that any new indie-pop group could just pop up and hit it big, but over the past year, the bar has certainly been raised for new bands. However, even with this in mind, the Torono-based brother-sister duo, Brave Shores, has a winning recipe in their possession, and they've put it to good use in their debut, self-titled EP. Some slightly lo-fi accents give their sound a bit of a retro tint, but their masterful use of electronic instrumentation keeps each track feeling fresh. Ranging from soul, to electronic, to indie, the LA-based singer-songwriter and producer has our full attention, and its with his mixing and matching of different sounds that makes this the case. It was just five months ago when we ran across his debut song, “Seminole”, but already, NoMBe has confirmed his excellence with two newer tracks in “Waves” and “Vowels”. Get ready for NoMBe’s upcoming EP to create some serious waves in the music scene, because a project of its quality and sonic dynamism will certainly go noticed. - written by Cole Ryan.
