Within the endless current of new music, it’s difficult for anyone to keep up with all that’s coming out. To combat this ongoing influx of sound, we publish our “Best New Artists of the Month” articles in the hopes that you never miss out on the outstanding new artists emerging in recent times. [do action="sub-heading" title="KALEIDA"/] When we were approached to premiere the new single from this exciting new duo out of the UK, we didn’t have to think twice. The subtly pronounced electronica, coupled with one of the most compelling female voices at present convinced that the two were here to stay. We instantly fell in love with the pair, and evidently you all did as well. With over 2,200 individual hits, “Think” was one of our most played songs that we featured last month, and we are honoured to once again feature them in our list of best new artists. Our piqued curiosity, however, was propelled into full-blown obsession as they dropped “Misshaped Mouth”, a brooding, yet captivating single that has cemented their place in this list of our favourite new new artists. Over the course of these two singles, Sons et al. have demonstrated a vast array of musical mastery. Lead vocalist Nick Acquroff yaws from tender falsetto to a sullen bawl with ease as the other members craft a dense musical landscape so accomplished, that it is hard to comprehend you are listening to band so early in their career. We look forward to hearing what else Sons et al. have to offer when they release their sophomore EP sometime in the (hopefully) not-too-distant future. And the solid foundation of the tracks lead to all of us foreshadowing their eventual pop ascension. Turns out, if you were one of those fortune-tellers, you were right, because when IYES dropped their latest single, "'Til Infinity", it became glaringly obvious that IYES is indeed the real deal. And now with a record label behind them, look for IYES to release more music in 2014 with a newfound confidence, and a readiness to take the next step into sonic superstardom. Possessing a sound that could be adored by millions instantly, CCL craft deft pop music that sounds like slice of MGMT and Passion Pit. If we had it our way, Cold Clinical Love would be all over the radio with their should-be smash hit, "Bob Dylan". However, as well all know, the mechanisms of the industry are super slow to catch on, so let's just take the initiative here while at the same time stating the obvious: Cold Clinical Love is a VERY good band. More please! And though they're not technically new to November, it wasn't until their latest track entitled "EMPIRE" that we saw them reach new heights. The track is one of the most forward-sounding songs of the year, and it boasts one the most powerful videos we have ever seen. If you haven't seen this video, do yourself a favor and watch it. We've seen London Grammar post about KOTA on their FB, and we've seen KOTA remix a LG song, and so if we were a betting kind of person, we'd have to say that KOTA hails from the UK. Speculation aside, expect the team to make some big moves in the coming year. After capturing our attention with a string of remixes this year, it wasn't until the release of his debut EP, Reign Dance, that we went from casual fans to full-fledged obsessors. His Nick Acquroff (of Sons et all.) assisted track, "Stay" is one of the best tracks of the year in our eyes, and you can expect Chiefs to keep things moving in 2014 with more remixes and maybe some more instrumental works. With unbelieveable songs like, "Going" & "Rewinding", you can no doubt expect Elderbrook to continue to build a name for himself as we move into the next year. Be on the lookout for a new EP from the individual coming soon! After countless hours, the songs often start to amalgamate into a continuously monotonous beat, yet we forge on, forever searching for the elusive diamond in the rough. And it was through a search that was rewarded one day in early November that we accidentally stumbled on “Stay Coloured”, a yet-to-be-released single from Melbourne band, I Know The Chief. From the very first listen, we knew we had something special on our hands. The tropical guitars, breezy synths and catchy lyrics coalesced to form an incredible single that is the closest we have come to hearing a perfect indie-pop song in quite some time. As we descend into the depths of winter in the Northern hemisphere, I Know The Chief have provided the quintessential "escape", an aural portal to transport us to their electric disco-jungle at the press of a button.
