Best New Artists of the Month

(May 2016)

Within the endless current of new music, it’s difficult for anyone to keep up with all that’s coming out. To combat this ongoing influx of sound, we publish our “Best New Artists of the Month” articles in the hopes that you never miss out on the outstanding new artists emerging in recent times. All the songs from the artists mentioned here can be heard below. L.A WOMEN Our favorite debut song of the past month came by way of L.A WOMEN, a New Zealand-based trio that isn't yet out of their teenage years. Their introductory offering, "Hurricane Love", can be summed up as a flawless piece of alternative-pop, and with its piano-based production, original songwriting, and stellar vocal performance, the track is nothing short of excellent introduction from the group. Keep them high up on your new-artist radar, because we're betting they'll be back with more top-class material soon. Terror Jr Terror Jr instantly picked up tons of buzz when their debut song, "3 Strikes", featured in a Kylie Jenner ad at the end of March, and, ever since, the electro-pop trio has only been improving with each release. Their second track, "Sugar", improved upon their first, and their third, "Trippin", has fully blown us away. 6LACK 6LACK, a rapper and singer from Atlanta, only has a handful of songs out so far, but he's already making some serious waves. Our favorite track of his, "Ex Calling", has been unable to leave our ears since it dropped; it's one of those undeniable rap hits that's going to have everyone taking notice, for sure. Somewhere Else A few weeks ago, OVO Sound Radio premiered a Majid Jordan-featuring track, "Move Together", from newcomer Somewhere Else. Nobody really knows anything at this point about the act, but based on the affiliation with Drake's label and how impressive their first offering is, there's no question we're going to be hearing more big things from the act soon. SHELLS There's a lot of singer-songwriters to choose from right now, so picking the ones to really pay attention to is getting to be a tougher and tougher task. When it comes to SHELLS, an up-and-comer from the UK, though, there's no question she should be on your shortlist. This past week, she showed why that is with what was an absolute stunning first offering in "GOLD", and, as a result of that, you best stay tuned for what else she has cooking up.
