Best New Artists of the Month

(December 2015)

Within the endless current of new music, it’s difficult for anyone to keep up with all that’s coming out. To combat this ongoing influx of sound, we publish our “Best New Artists of the Month” articles in the hopes that you never miss out on the outstanding new artists emerging in recent times. Johnny Rain [track id="00951601" artist="Johnny Rain" title="Dance..."][track id="00951600" artist="Johnny Rain" title="143"] Johnny Rain is by no means a new artist to the world (his debut project dropped three years ago), but to us and anyone who's only just become familiar with him via his new EP, he's a talent to certainly know about. Every single track on that new body of work is great, and, altogether, provide a depth that's rarely heard. We're not quite sure why the guy's not any bigger than he currently is, but we suspect he's only going to rise if and when he can continue to release more music like the kind we've heard. Seramic [track id="00951682" artist="Seramic" title="People Say"] Gospel and soul are on the rise, and new artists and acts like Seramic are reasons why. In their first-ever release, they excellently debut their tranquil but passionate sound, and, though we're definitively hooked on it, we're hoping to hear more of the kind of brilliant tracks from the act ahead. Shylde [track id="00951565" artist="Shylde" title="Fickle"] Shylde is one of the most promising undiscovered pop artists to emerge this past month, and, in his debut track, "Fickle", he presents everything we look for in a pop song (strong vocals, a captivating chorus, intriguing production, thoughtful songwriting, etc.). We absolutely have no idea what more the artist has in store for us ahead—he's electing to take the mysterious, no-info approach at the moment—but suffice it to say that we're very excited to find out whatever it is. MATT BLACK [track id="00951528" artist="MATT BLACK" title="Moving On (prod. by Dopamine)"] R&B and pop have been fusing for a while now, and one of the newest artists to take hold of the sound is Sydney's MATT BLACK. He debuted his smooth, sensual sound in "Moving On" this past month, and, already, it's accumulated quite a few SoundCloud listens as well as getting a spin on Triple J Unearthed. We know he has a music video for the track coming soon, and we're hoping that it won't be too long until we hear more new music from him as well. LOYAL [track id="00951523" artist="LOYAL" title="Blue & The Green"] It takes a special kind of act to be able to rise through the ranks these days. There are many talented ones out there making similar sounds, and while there's nothing inherently wrong with that, the sad truth is that only a few will be able to make it out. LOYAL, a new three-piece from London, has qualities to make them stand out, and their debut track, "Blue & The Green", shows their potential to burst beyond the mere internet sphere and out into more fortuitous lights.
