The remarkably talented Ciaran McDonald (Bear//Face) hasn’t dropped a single track for over half a year now, but let’s not fail to remember the noteworthy sound he boasts, as it's one that's impacted several upcoming acts in the always-sprouting chillwave genre. Having enthralled us on several occasions with his long-drawn, lower-pitched cuts and quintessential space-driven chords, Ciaran manages to employ highly absorbing yet sorrowful sentiments throughout his efforts, and sequentially brings to boil an implausible, instantly immersive setting. After quite a dry spell, the Northern Irish resident has ushered in fall in exemplary fashion by collaborating with Brooklyn-based vocalist Mothica, and the result is as expected, with both acts delightfully accommodating each other on “Molt”. A sonically overcast climate is evident on “Molt”, as trickling water and reverberated chimes typify the undercurrent, and Mothica’s effortlessly wafting voice elevates the progressions breathtakingly. Besides the synths utilized, McDonald’s unorthodox sound inclusions also play a crucial role in the piece’s essence, with echoed claves, beautifully automated hats, and repeated sweeps hoisting the piece at the drop and bringing back a raw flavor of electronic we thoroughly missed.
