Here at Hillydilly, we see a lot of collaborations, but this one in particular is a pretty rare occurrence for one chief reason: both Bearcubs and Tom Misch are essentially pioneering their own distinct sounds within music. The former is known for his unparalled electronic productions, and the latter, for his smooth, soulful vocals and low-key production; so when we saw that they joined forces on "Colours Of Freedom", we had absolutely no idea what to expect (but all kinds of excitement waiting to find out). As it turns out, we can assure you that the track's the perfect medium between each of their styles; and it might actually be our favorite release from both of the artists to date. Immediately on the track, you get that classic Tom Misch sound with his groovy keyboard chords and his soft percussion. Shortly thereafter, Bearcubs puts a little bump in the beat, touching it up with bouncing bass and plenty of subtle guitar plucks. Once the chorus hits, though, the artists' true musical brilliance is totally revealed, as they've so delicately constructed an exemplary hook, not containing a particularly unusual set of instruments, but one that's notably unique and effective. After another fluid second verse, just when you think the chorus is about to hit again, they pull away into an emotive moment of melancholy, led by the sorrowful call of a violin. And just as your emotions are starting to set in, you're thrust right back into the upbeat, blissful chorus that we adore. It's just another decision of theirs that works to perfection on the track, and we'd be remiss to say that "Colours Of Freedom" as a whole isn't one of the more exciting efforts we've come across in some time.
